Skilled Recognised Graduate Visa – Subclass 476
Newly minted engineers from accredited universities are eligible for an 18-month employment and study visa in Australia. To increase your chances of qualifying for a permanent or provisional skilled visa, working in Australia for a year will earn you 5 points and make it more likely that you will be able to move there permanently.
You can apply for this visa if you are, among other things:
- Applying applicants must be under 31 years old.
- possess a degree in engineering from an accredited university within the past two years (preferably at the bachelor’s level).

When applying for this visa, you can be in or outside of Australia; nevertheless, you must be physically present outside of Australia to be granted the visa. The only exception to this rule is New Zealand citizens who possess a Special Category visa (subclass 444).
When visiting Australia, you can do a variety of things.
Make an effort to learn more and practice more English phrases.
One of the following engineering credentials must have been earned during the preceding two years before you submit your application.
- Level of education equivalent to a Bachelor’s
- Having a Master’s Degree
- Degree of Doctor
Masters and doctoral degrees.
Your degree must feature significant engineering-related coursework or a focus area, such as
- Civil engineering
- Structural engineering
- Chemical engineering
- Environmental engineering
- Electrical and electronics engineering
- Mechanical, production, and plant engineering.
- Mining and material engineering.
Institutions in Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Finland, Germany, Hungary, India, Iran, China, the Philippines, Poland, Slovakia, Sweden, and Tanzania, or institutions meeting the criteria of the Washington Accord.
At the time of submission, you may list the following dependents on your visa application:
- Partner
- Possibly either your or your partner’s biological or step-child.
- A General or Academic IELTS score of at least 6, with a minimum score of 5 in each of the four components (listening, reading, writing, and speaking) earned within the three years preceding submitting the visa application.
- A passing grade of “B” or above on all sections of the Occupational English Test (OET) taken within the last two years before submitting the visa application.
- An internet-based Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL iBT) score of at least 64 with the following minimum test scores in each of the four test components: 4 for listening, 4 for reading, 14 for writing, and 14 for speaking, taken within the three years before submitting the visa application.
- A Pearson Test of English Academic (PTE Academic) score of at least 50 with a minimum score of 36 in each of the four components (listening, reading, writing, speaking) taken within the three years preceding submitting the visa application.
- A total score of at least 169 on the Listening, Reading, Writing, and Speaking sections of the Cambridge English: Advanced (CAE) exam was taken on or after January 1, 2015, with no section below 154.
